For those of you who have purchased it, you can and should consider it an investment in your financial future. Why? Because having great credit reports and credit scores is the best way to keep more of your hard earned money at home, where it belongs.
A little background...
I actually started writing this book in 1997 after I left Equifax. The original title was going to be "Inside the Walls." I had about 30 pages finished when I realized that any book about credit needed to have a significant dedication to credit scoring. I had just taken my new job at Fair Isaac (FICO) and I decided to put the book on hold until I was well versed on the subject of credit scoring.
When I left Fair Isaac in late 2004, I started re-writing the book from scratch. I finished it in early 2007. What you have is a 10-year labor of love and insight into the inner workings of the credit industry. I certainly hope you enjoy it and I hope you can leverage what you learn into better credit health and all that it entails.
Why is this book different...
This book is NOT about credit repair and it's not a bunch of quotes and research results. This book was written by an industry veteran (still in the industry) and it's all about learning how the system works so that you can function better within it. It's not about how to fool the credit reporting and credit scoring systems.
If you're trying to figure out how to beat FICO or have accurate (but negative) information removed from your credit reports under false pretenses then do NOT buy this book because it's not for you. If you are ready to learn how to EARN better credit using lessons that will last a life time and can be handed down to your children and their children then this is the book for you.

Customer Review: This book is a great read! It lays out the rules for having credit cards and checking accounts that I wish I had when starting out with my personal finances. I finally found out how checks are used by banks and department stores. And I like the ways to protect myself from getting my personal information ripped off and my credit ruined. And the ways to get out of financial trouble if your in it are wonderful.
This book also has many ways to get free money in the form of grants for college and starting a business that I find useful. Many foundations and the government have a lot of money they give away every year. There is a lot of free money out there that I didn't even know about, like credit cards and special financing deals for cars and furniture.
I always thought that a budget was about counting pennies, but I was wrong. The way to create a budget in the book is easy and makes sense. And there is a lot of good information about easy investing for the future. I loved it!

Customer Review: Good - tells you how to show for credit by being professional, researching and asking the right questions and starting at the local level.
Bad - Incorrect material. 1- The FTC can represent an individual consumer in litigation. 2- Credit bureaus are not obligated to honor a consumer's request to be removed from pre-approved lists. 3 - credit bureaus score credit files. 4 - Removal of a tax lien cannot be reinserted. 5 - Bounced checks do not appear on credit reports. All of this is wrong and the list goes on. Too many errors to list here.
Ugly - the book accuses credit repair companies of taking advantage of consumers ignorance but this book is also advancing at the expense of consumers lack of understanding or knowledge by providing erroneous information to the masses.
More time should have been spent researching the facts.
